Love of God – Love of Neighbor:tonight at 6:00 p.m.

Join us in welcoming The Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord, founder and President of “The Guibord Center – Religion Inside Out”.  It is simply not possible to say that we love God and hate another human being.  Our Christianity mandates that we are and must be a better people.  Join her tonight as we learn more about Islam.  You may be astonished to discover that we, who are Christian, have far more in common with our Muslim brothers and sisters in all that unites us through faith than what divides us.

Music Guild

Fiesta de los Locos

Saturday, May 5, 5:00 p.m.

Don’t miss Epiphany’s personalized take on the Feast of Fools – Cinco de Mayo edition!  This popular medieval festival was regularly celebrated by clergy and laity from the fifth century until the sixteenth century.  In the Bishop’s Hall, a child Bishop (the Abbot of Unreason) will be chosen, and he or she will be “consecrated” with delightful ceremony.  All gathered will enjoy a “lightening” of our beloved liturgy and church traditions in playful parody.  Music for this medieval dis-service will include styles of music not often heard at Epiphany.  And, of course, the food, drink, and hospitality will be – in a word – heavenly.  Space will be limited.  Pre-paid reservation required.  Contact music@tcote.org or (818) 991-4797 x26 for reservation information. $30 per person (includes dinner and wine), $25 per person (dinner only); need-based unscholarships are available.

Concert: Corner Pocket Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Sunday, May 20, 2012, 5:00 p.m.

Corner Pocket, along with their rhythm section, will present a concert of vocal music, from classic/traditional jazz and swing, to world music selections, to more modern repertoire, featuring the lush harmonies and fantastic blend they have become known for.

This event begins with a wine reception at 5:00 p.m.  Admission for Music Guild Members is free.  Suggested donations at the door for other guests:  $35 per family; $15 per adult; $5 per child/student/senior.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL JUNE 25th-29th

Sign up today for VBS.  Ask anyone who has ever been just how much fun it can be! The mission part of this year’s fun filled Bible busting week will raise money for wheelchairs.   We need volunteers for a variety of activities.  See Karen after the services.

Newcomer’s Cafe – Sunday, May 6 at 9:00 a.m.
New to the Church of the Epiphany or want to meet new parishioners who sit on the other side of the church from you?  If your answer is yes, join us in the Founder’s Room at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 6th to meet new friends and learn more about the Church.  Questions, please contact Gabriel Rueda or Elizabeth Olson at info@tcote.org.

The DBSA Conejo Valley Depression and Bipolar Support Group that meets at Epiphany Monday evenings is excited to announce that they are starting a second group for teens and college age people starting May 2 at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Outreach

Special Opportunity to Double Our Support for MANNA

Continuing through April, a generous donor will match each item.  Remember, any non-perishable super market item will be used: food, toiletries, diapers, paper towels. Your generous support is always appreciated by MANNA’s recipients.

The mission of the Red Door Vineyard (RDV) Guild is to support and cultivate our community through working the soil, tending vines, harvesting grapes, and crafting wine. Guild members will be invited to work together to dig, tend, trim, weed, harvest and crush, all the while deepening and exploring our  connection with our inner selves, our neighbors, our community, the earth, and the universal.  Brochures are available for more information.

tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Presented by the Epiphany Schola

The service of Compline, which dates back to the first six hundred years of Christianity, consists of psalms, scripture, a hymn, a canticle, and prayers. Compline is offered when the work of the day is completed, and the quietness of evening settles over the hearts and minds of those who have come together in thankfulness for the blessings of the day that has passed and in anticipation of God’s gift of a new day.

Lenten Series: Scrolls and Scripture in Early Judaism and Christianity

We are pleased to welcome Professor Sam Thomas from California Lutheran University as our Lenten speaker.

In recent decades new theories have emerged regarding the formation of the biblical canon, the history of early Judaism and Christianity, and the varieties of religion in Mediterranean antiquity. Archeological discoveries such as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi library have transformed the modern understanding of the ancient world.

Dr. Thomas will provide a survey of these and other discoveries and speak about their impact on contemporary Judaism and Christianity.

Please join us for a very interesting series of lectures continuing Wednesday evenings March 7, 14, and 21.

Evening prayer begins at 6:30, followed by soup supper at 6:45, and with the lecture beginning at 7:30.

Dr. Sam Thomas will provide a survey of these and other discoveries and speak about their impact on contemporary Judaism and Christianity.

Please join us for a very interesting series of lectures Wednesday evenings March 7, 14, 21, and 28.

Evening prayer begins at 6:30, followed by soup supper at 6:45, and with the lecture beginning at 7:30.

All are welcome!

Compline Service

Sunday, March 20, 7:30 p.m.

Confirmation

Our faith and belonging as part of the Body of Christ is given to each of us in our baptism, which for many of us was at a very young age. Confirmation is the adult affirmation of our faith. We will begin preparing interested adults 16 years of age and older for the sacramental rite of Confirmation which will take place later in the spring. If you are interested in being confirmed, or if you have already been confirmed and are still interested in learning more, please come to an introductory meeting on Sunday, February 26, after the 10 a.m. service in the Founder’s room. If you are unable to make it to that meeting, please contact The Very Rev. Melissa McCarthy at mmccarthy@tcote.org for more information. All adults 16 years and older are welcome!

Interested in learning more about the diaconate?

It is an ordained order of ministry which focuses on serving others in need. In December, the Venerable Joanne Leslie, Archdeacon for the Diocese of Los Angeles, came to speak with us about the ministry of deacons and from her conversations with parishioners a small reading group has been formed.  If you are interested in learning more about diaconal ministry and joining this reading group, please email The Very Rev. Melissa McCarthy at mmccarthy@tcote.org and let her know of your interest. Our next meeting is this evening at 5:30 p.m.  All are welcome!
